About Us

Delta Working.jpg

Our first PWD came into our lives in 1989.  We searched for a breed that was medium sized, intelligent and liked to swim and retrieve.  We also hoped for a dog that would be  more protective than the Labrador Retrievers we had at the time. We lived in Alaska when we got our first PWD, and Tango (CH Sunnyhill McKinly MoondanceUD C-CDX OA NAC WWD GROM) was a fabulous introduction to the breed.   All the dogs we have in our house today are descended from her.

Starting in 1994, we’ve bred 7 litters under the “Lookout” prefix and currently share our home in Oregon with Delta, Kodi, Koll and Ziva.

Suzanne is a member of the PWDCA and PNWPWDC (National and Regional Portuguese Water Dog Clubs).  She is a water trial judge, has been on steering committees for several National Specialties and has held a number of offices in the PNWPWDC over the years. Jan runs the dogs in agility and FCAT.

Whether you're looking for a new furry family member or interested in learning more about the breed, Lookout Portuguese Water Dogs is here to help.

Our Breeding Philosophy

We breed infrequently and strive to breed dogs with stable temperaments, sound structure, good health and excellent breed type.  We have a strong focus on maintaining the breed's working ability and characteristics.  We carefully select fully health cleared dogs for breeding and raise puppies in our home with individualized attention.

We screen new homes diligently to ensure that each pup is placed in a loving and suitable home, where they will receive the same top-notch care our own dogs do.

Like all responsible breeders, we are committed to our puppies for life and provide continuing support and guidance. In the unfortunate event that an owner cannot keep their dog, we will take our pups back or assist in finding them a soft landing in a new home.

We work (play) with our dogs in water work, obedience, agility and conformation.  Having them involved in and tested by these activities pushes us to set a  high standard for future generations of pups and produce both excellent companions as well as good show or performance prospects.
